All children require love, care, and a loving environment to grow up. At Kaumudalaya Children’s Home, we seek to transform the lives of children by providing them with the love and care they deserve. This is the inspiring story of a special child who was admitted at our home in a critical condition but returned a healthy, happy, and confident child.
A Difficult Begining
On 7th August 2023, she was admitted to Kaumudalaya Children’s Home, located at Joysagar, Sibsagar, Assam. She was just 10 years and 6 months old, but life had already been extremely harsh for her. With a history of neglect, she had acute ear infections, scabies, and could not walk or talk properly. She had no social interaction and lacked even the most basic toilet training, which made survival even more difficult for her.
The Kaumudalaya team realized that her healing journey was not going to be an easy one, but we were ready to provide her with a second chance at life.
Medical Care & Recovery
The very first moment XYZ stepped into our home, she was provided with instant medical care. Our medical team, along with ANMs (Auxiliary Nurse Midwives) of Child Care Institute (CCI), conducted thorough medical check-ups. With the passage of time, with the right medicines, treatments, and diet, her health began to heal.
Today, She is scabies-free and infection-free. Her health has improved a lot, and she is still under close observation to ensure her well-being.
A New Beginning: Special Education & Therapy
Recovery was not only physical well-being— She required emotional and mental growth as well. After we stabilized her health, we admitted her to a special school (Kabyalaya) where she was initiated to formal schooling.
With focused speech therapy and special schooling, she has improved phenomenally:
• She is able to utter a few words
• She is learning basic color identification
• She can walk up the stairs and identify blocks
• She plays interactive games like ball-throwing
Every small achievement is a giant step for her, and seeing her grow is nothing less than inspiring.
